This wide-ranging tour of India and Nepal is designed for the cultural and historically minded traveler. Stops include Bombay, Ajanta, Ellora, Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, Kathmandu, Patan, Pashupatinath and Bhaktapur in Nepal.
Day 1: USA - India
Welcome aboard Air India 747-400 Jumbo jet flight to Bombay, enjoying hospitality fit for royalty by silk sari clad hostesses. Indulge yourself with delicious Indian and Continental cuisine.
Day 2 : Mumbai
Late night arrival in Bombay, where after a traditional Indian garland welcome you'll be escorted to Hotel Taj President/Hotel Hilton Towers.
Day 3 : Mumbai
This morning at leisure. Afternoon sightseeing tour includes the Gateway of India, The Prince of Wales Museum, Mahalaxmi Temple, Nehru Park, the famous Malabar Hills (Passage to India was filmed here). We return to hotel via the famous Marine Drive of Bombay Harbor. (D)
Day 4 : Mumbai - Aurangabad
After breakfast we cross the harbor on motor-launch to visit the fascinating Elephanta caves, carved in the form of Lord Shiva in his triple aspect.a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the rock-cut cave temples with sculptured interiors dating back to the 6th century. Late this afternoon fly to Aurangabad, center of rock cut architecture. After transfer, check-in to Hotel Taj Residency/Hotel Ambassador. (D)
Day 5 : Aurangabad
After breakfast, you will leave for an excursion of Ellora, the site of 34 temples carved into the hillside. These ancient masterpieces are mind-beguiling works of art dating back to the 6th C. -- fine examples of Jain, Hindu and Buddhist art.
Day 6 : Aurangabad
Today you'll take an excursion tour of Ajanta, center of Mahayana Buddhism and the Ajanta Caves. These thirty caves of chapels and monasteries are constructed so that natural light illuminates the profusion of wall paintings created by making pigments from a compound of precious stones. These artistic treasures are a testament of opulence of a culture long gone. This evening fly to Bombay for an overnight rest.
Day 7 : Mumbai - Udaipur
Fly to one of the most romantically beautiful cities of India, Udaipur, situated in a natural setting which include lovely lakes, marble palaces, luxurious gardens and Royal Temples. Enjoy a cruise on Lake Pichola surrounded by the magnificent sights of royal palaces and castles. Stay at the romantic Shiv Niwas Palace/Lake Palace Hotel (former summer palace)
Day 8 : Udaipur - Jaipur
Morning sightseeing tour includes City Palace built in 1725, Moti Mahal, Palace of Krishna, Jagdish Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Saheliyon Ki Bari, The gardens of Royal Harems consisting of beautiful lawns, gardens and fountains. Evening flight to Jaipur. Check-in to Hotel Jai Mahal Palace/lLe Meridien hotel. (D)
Day 9 : Jaipur
Today travel in the style of Emperor Akbar to the Amber Fort atop festive Indian Elephants. Afternoon sightseeing includes The City Palace, Albert Museum, Jantar Mantar and the Observatory. For this evening, we recommend a rickshaw drive around the city displaying local life style in the ancient biblical way.
Day 10 : Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra
Enroute to Agra you'll stop at Fatehpur-Sikri, the deserted sandstone city built by Akbar. This imperial complex of forts, palaces, mosques and temples was short lived and today is a haunting testament to that era. Fatehpur Sikri is the best example of the culmination of Hindu and Muslim architecture. Fatehpur Sikri Mosque is said to be a copy of the mosque in Mecca and has designs, derived from the Persian & Hindu architecture. Late this afternoon we arrive in Agra. Day 11 : Agra
This morning Stand awe-struck when you visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, certain to be an India tour highlight, as the colors on the white marble building give it a mythical aura. Completed in 1643, this exquisitely detailed monument is considered one of the finest architectural achievements. Our next stop is Agra Fort, built principally as a military establishment by Akbar in 1565, the red sandstone Agra fort was partially converted into a palace during Shah Jahan's time. Though the principal structure was built by Akbar, many more additions were made by his grandsons. This massive fort is 2.5 kms long, the colossal walls are 20 feet high and the whole fort is encircled by a fetid moat. Amar Singh gate towards the south is the only entry point in the fort. The building and structures inside the fort gives an impression of a city within the city. The marble pearl mosque inside the fort is one of the most stunningly beautiful mosques in India.
Day 12 : Agra - Varanasi
After an early morning breakfast, drive to Delhi airport. This afternoon we fly to Varanasi, the most sacred Hindu city in India. You'll visit Sarnath where Lord Buddha revealed his enlightenment to Nirvana. Hotel Clark's/ Taj Ganges. (D)
Day 13 : Varanasi - Delhi - Kathmandu
Your day begins with a boat ride on the Ganges River, whose holy waters draw thousands of pilgrims. This remarkable tour shows the cleansing baths and burning cremation ghats of Hindu Funeral Rituals, we will then visit Hanuman Temple and Monkey temples. This afternoon fly to Kathmandu via Delhi. Airport transfer to Hotel Yak N Yeti/Del Annapurna. (D)
DAY 14 : Kathmandu
We begin this day with a morning tour of Kathmandu city, visiting the Temple of Hanuman, Dhoka Square, The House of the Living Goddess, the Royal Palace, and the city markets. Afternoon sightseeing in Patan, city of ancient architecture and fine arts, renowned for its silver, copper and bronze work. Evening free. (D)
Day 15 : Kathmandu
Morning is free with an optional (but recommended, not included) flight-seeing tour of Mt. Everest. Ample time for shopping for antiques and gifts. This afternoon we'll visit Bhaktapur, the city of religious devotees built in the shape of shell, visit the Lion Gate, the Picture Gallery, the Golden Gate and the Palace of Windows.
Day 16 : Kathmandu - Delhi
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free for shopping or a walk around the bazaars. Afternoon flight to Delhi. Hotel Taj Palace / Grand Hotel. (D)
Day 17 : Delhi
After breakfast you are off to visit the capital city. It will include the Presidential Palace, Parliament House, India Gate, Qutab Minar Tower, Jantar Mantar, the fashionable Connaught Circus. Red Fort Chandni Chowk, Mahalaxmi Temple and Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi. This evening enjoy a truly spectacular Sound & Light show at the Red Fort.
Day 18 : Delhi - USA
Early this morning final departure from Delhi.
